Website Redesign In 2020

We just redid our website a few months ago and it was a royal headache to be honest. The first thing we had to decide was which platform to go with. And it nearly split the company into 2 camps.

I consider myself to be fairly tech literate when I first created Interesting Content. I had designed the first website myself and found a freelancer to code the site for me on Word Press.

A platform which we stayed with for the last 5 years. Don’t get me started on having to take a DIY approach not only in terms of having to make the site but also find your own hosting, lack of tech support etc. The flip side of this is also true in terms of customisability and benefits WP has for SEO reasons.

After “accidently” breaking the website a couple of times. And needing to pay every time we wanted to create some minor updated we gave WP the elbow. And have been with Square Space ever since (those dam podcast adverts really worked on me).

  • Here were the main considerations we had to take when we redesigned our site?

  • How often do we want to update the site?

  • Do we have internal resources who can maintain and look after the technical changes required ?

  • Should we get a designer to help or DIY design?

  • How important is inbound marketing Vs Outbound?

  • What are we willing to live with in terms of short comings vs compared to Square Space ?

  • Budget, one off cost vs maintaining quarterly?

  • Sexy design Vs Good backend that would be difficult to beat in the long run?

Here are the resources we referred to?
