Tips To Attract More Followers On Your Social Media

Before you read on, I know, I know this topics deserves a much longer possibly multiple volumes of content to do this justice. As Victor Hugo once said “Eternal truths are simple“. So a few months ago I was looking at ways to attract and retain more followers on our social media channels.

We as a company have the usual suspects. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram. We are considering Tiktok at time of writing but I suspect we will be latecomers for that particular platform.

I may know a lot of things about marketing from experience and self learning. I am by no means a social media expert but below is advice which I hope you will find useful.

I read, I consulted, I listened and also watched a lot of content when researching for this post and here is what I distilled from everything I engaged with.

1. Don't keep promoting yourself, it’s not about you it’s about your customers.

2. Comment regularly on relevant posts, if you know something of value share it!

3. Use hashtags effectively, sadly we have to cater to the algo’s so when you do post or comment make sure you use the right hashtags so a lot more people will see, read, engage with your comment.

4. Avoid posting unnecessarily. Brevity is your friend. So speak less but with more care.

5. Avoid following random profiles. Keep this curated. We often follow our customers as well as people we want to work with and or folks who inspire us.

6. Thank people who make your posts engaging. This is classic Gary Vee advice. Create a community around you. Engage with people and they will do the same.

7. Be consistent, a case for needing to follow my own advice here. Post regularly simple as!

8. Do not flame, troll others, instead find and focus on people and companies you admire and simply spend time engaging, promoting and talking to each other.
