How To Get The Right Tone Of Voice For Your Company?

In the voice of Yoda: You don’t get the right tone of voice for your company, you to comes it!

By this I mean getting the right tone of voice is not something you can manufacture at will.

It’s an organic process that takes time, involves people outside of the organisation as well as the communication preferences/ style of all the key people at the company. How you choose to interact with your customers ? How they interact and behave with your product or service. As well as what your competitors speak to the market.

Do you as a company take yourself seriously or are you a bit casual and light hearted? Of course you have to be appropriate to the industry as well as the goods and services you are selling. And how that fits into your customers lives.

When I first discovered the brand archetype it kind of blew me away!

Here are the 12 brand archetypes:

  • The Innocent

  • The Everyman

  • The Hero

  • The Rebel

  • The Explorer

  • The Creator

  • The Ruler

  • The Magician

  • The Caregiver

  • The Jester

  • The Sage

You have to do some work inhouse to work out which one you most belong to from the above and then the tone of voice will emerge. The above is an exercise which can be done internally or you can bring in an outside consultant to help you.

Once you have the above nailed the brand tone of voice, style, things you have the inclination to speak about should emerge.
