Create Snackable Video Content For Social Media!

Unlike the popular thought of the day… I personally think people’s attention span is longer or is the same it has ever been. We have just been using the wrong metrics, mediums and messages to conclude it has.

The evidence is here, yes we watch insta stories, look at snapchat and have a giggle at what we see on TikTok. But we also binge watch box sets on weekends, listen to 4 hour long podcast episodes. And we don’t seem to tire of either mediums. Since the lockdown. These has been an explosion of creators making content for all sorts of long form mediums.

What I’m saying is; people’s attention spans aren’t getting shorter at all. It’s just the medium they happen to consume the media in, is allowing for and encouraging shorter form content to flourish. But not saying to you to stop creating long form content at all.

That being said here is my top 10 tips on creating short snackable content.

  1. Keep to one message at a time (don’t over complicate snackable content)

  2. Make sure your Tone of voice is consistent and in line with your brand archetype

  3. Create the content for the medium (i.e. learn the quirks of how Instagram stories are presented vs how IGTV is shown to your audience)

  4. Be human! (People love watching things they can relate to)

  5. Don’t Sell (instead think of each piece of content as a chance to remain top of mind with your audience.

  6. Empathise with your audience, where are they likely to consume this content, cater to that!

  7. Think of your audiences biggest problems and solve it!

  8. Plan ahead, think about major events or milestones your customers are going to have coming up and make content for that!

  9. Mix things up! Don’t be afraid to try new things out.

  10. Have fun! No one wants to watch a bore drone on about things esp. when it comes to short snackable content. Keep is short, sweet and sexy!

In short: don’t change the message, just make sure your message is adapted so it can be made into a shorter form that whets the appetite and leaves your audience wanting more!
